International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters

Brunei Darussalam will continue to foster long-standing ties with ASEAN Dialogue Partners including the Russian Federation especially in the field of security. The matter was underlined by Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office as Deputy Chair of the National Security Committee, during the ASEAN-Russia Consultations of the High-Ranking Representatives for Security Issues. It was held as part of the International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters held recently in Moscow, Russian Federation.

Brunei Darussalam's delegation also joined a discussion session on the issue of Information Security chaired by His Excellency S.V.Verishnin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and His Excellency D.G. Gribkov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Also held was a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Igor Zubov Deputy Minister, Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation. During this bilateral meeting, both countries discussed opportunities for strengthening cooperation in combatting illicit drugs, which is one of the priority areas highlighted in the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Security Committee of Brunei Darussalam and the Security Council of the Russian Federation that was renewed in April 2024. Also present was His Excellency Pengiran Muhammad Husaini bin Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Russian Federation.
